PERENNIAL leading vendor Wilgerbosdrift, breeders of, among others, outstanding sire Dynasty, and involved in breeding recent Sun Met winner Rainbow Bridge (in partnership with Mauritzfontein), will once again be offering a large, quality draft at the 2019 Cape Yearling Sale.
Wilgerbosdrift’s Cape draft includes yearlings by such popular and exciting stallions as Flying The Flag, Flower Alley, Legislate, and their sadly defunct resident sire Soft Falling Rain.
The latter, whose first crop daughter Gin Fizz created a huge impression when winning on debut by over seven lengths, has three lots in this draft namely a colt called Cool Runnings (Lot 15) whose 3 time winning dam is a ½ sister to Met winner Martial Eagle, Life Blood (Lot130) a half-brother to 2 winners including Dahlia Plate winner Oomph, and the regally bred filly Soft Day (Lot 167).
The latter, whose dam is a five time winning daughter of emerging broodmare sire Tiger Ridge, hails from the same family as emerging sire Master Of My Fate, and the latter’s Equus champion dam Promisefrommyheart, as well as Breeders’ Cup winner Pluck and current high class filly Ghaalla.
Grade One winner and proven Grade One sire, Flower Alley, has five lots in this impressive draft and they include a colt (Lot 21) from the same family as current high class galloper Twist Of Fate, a filly (Lot 25) whose dam is very closely related to Horse Of The Year and outstanding sire Dynasty, and a half-sister (Lot 99) to two winners notably former Cape champion and G2 The Debutante winner Rosier.
Galileo’s G3 winning Flying The Flag, an own brother to G1 winners Magical and Rhododendron, has two members of his first crop in this draft. His daughter Roha (Lot 90) is out of a winning Silvano half-sister to four black type performers, while Flying The Flag colt Essos (Lot143) is out of a winning daughter of Danehill Dancer and G1 Cape Fillies Guineas winner Igreja.
Dynasty’s four time G1 winning son, and former Horse Of The Year, Legislate is another young sire represented by a member of his first crop in the Wilgerbosdrift draft. His son Hoedspruit (Lot 95) is out of a Trippi own sister to G2 performer Shingwedi and ¾ sister to Perfect Promise Sprint winner Lesedi La Rona. His second dam is a Sadler’s Wells half-sister to French Oaks winner Bright Sky.
Another yearling in this draft sure to appeal to buyers is Wine Tasting (Lot 3) a Byword filly from the immediate family of recent G1 Bidvest Majorca Stakes winner Clouds Unfold, as well as unbeaten Yorkshire Oaks winner Catchascatchcan.
