JOCKEY Warren Kennedy gives the ‘mission completed’ sign on Soaring Jet (11-10 favourite, photo), the second leg of his well-fancied winning double for Mike de Kock’s Summerveld stable on the polytrack at Greyville on Saturday.
Soaring Jet, a three-year-old filly bred at Lammerskraal and raced by her breeders, Mike and Norma Rattray, scored over 1600m in her third visit to the racetrack and was impressive at that, five lengths superior at the line.
It was third time lucky too for Let’s Go West, a three-year-old colt owned by Sheikh Hamdan, who opened the day with a win over 1400m after topping the betting boards at 8-10.
Drakenstein Stud bred Let’s Go West from Western Winter, who also sired She’s All That, the well-performed mare who was covered by Jet Master to to produce Soaring Jet. Both former champion stallions are deceased, but their influence will remain in the stud book for another several years.
Assistant trainer John Buckler did duties for the stable at this meeting, saddling the pair of winners and a second place from four runners.
